Russia and Georgia are fighting over a breakaway region, and nobody i've talked to seems to know it. THIS IS CRAZY, ITS A BIG DEAL MAN! and i can't even rightly complain, because theres nothing i will do about it. blast

Just calling people's attention to it is something, buddy. And you'll find more and more that many people you know have no idea what's going on in the world because they don't bother to follow the news (or even what's just past their noses). NPR is awesome if you want to keep up on world news... I think it's 91.3 on your radio.
(I had heard the news bulletin about this on NPR this morning, but haven't been able to follow up on it yet. I'll see what I can find out and then pick your brain.)
Good job bringing attention to it. I read a bit about it through various channels. My basic understanding of what's going on is that Russia is huge, Georgia isn't. Russia is attempting to acquire a section of Georgia via overly violent means, and no one is going to do anything about it. I may be wrong in some fashion or another, since I haven't spent nearly as much time reading about it as I would have liked, but still, the entire scenario still brings to the front the issue that governments and various media outlets are way too capable of turning away from things that are actually important.
